How it Works

Studio 8 is available to be rented for photography and video production* by the hour, seven days a week from 7:00am until 10:00pm; a 90-minute option is also available. Rental rates vary between $50 and $70 an hour, and include the use of the studio’s lighting equipment, at no additional charge. Visit the Scheduling page to find a time that works for your schedule, and your budget. The studio is suitable for capturing Video, but the acoustics and the general sound level in the front studio space are not conducive to recording sound, however, the back studio, provides reasonable acoustics and a reduced sound level, suitable for recording sound.

When you rent the studio you and your clients will be the only ones in the building. Access is provided through a keypad entry-lock located on the front studio door. Your time-specific key pad code will be sent to you prior to your shoot, by text message, and you will only have access during your scheduled time. Touch the top of the keypad to “wake it up”, enter your four digit code (you will hear four beeps) then touch the Enter button at the bottom right of the keypad, (you will hear two beeps) Then turn the silver handle. It will move freely and unlock the door. If the door does not unlock, verify your number and try again, it will not open by force. If you have entry issues, please call us and we can assist you. The studio is equipped with remotely monitored security cameras for your protection and ours.

Payment in full is required when reserving a time on the schedule. When checking out please select to “REGISTER FOR AN ACCOUNT” after checkout. Doing this makes it easier for us to issue refunds or charge for additional time if you need to add time to your session.

Studio 8 features ample Natural light, during daylight hours. Additionally, the studio is equipped with Daylight Color Balanced LED lighting equipment that can be used with the Natural Daylight, or on its own. The provided lighting equipment is CONTINUOUS, not FLASH, and was chosen to provide a high quality simple and effective lighting solution for both still photography and video. There is not a separate charge for the use of the lighting equipment, however the lighting equipment may not be removed from the studio. The “House Lights” are also daylight balanced and can be left on during shooting.

Even if you are not used to using lighting equipment, turn them on and see how they improve the look of your photos. There are four large lights and two small lights. Treat the large lights like additional windows, and use the smaller lights as accent-lights or rim-lights.

Studio 8 will be offering “Hands On” Lighting classes on a regular basis to ensure that our customers are familiar with the equipment and how to use it to its fullest potential. Check out the Studio 8 Workshops page to see when the next Workshop is being offered and schedule it through the “Schedule the Studio” page.

After scheduling your session you will receive an automated email conformation that includes the details of the scheduled session and a link to cancel or reschedule your shoot should the need arise. Please refer to that email for cancellations or rescheduling your session.

  • This is something you will have to determine on your own, but bear in mind that you will need to have time to setup, have your subjects get ready, and to take down, clean up and return any props, furniture and lighting equipment to it’s original location before you leave. Unless the space is rented immediately after your shoot, we will stop by and inspect the space to make sure it is ready for our next renter. It is possible to do simple shoots in an hour. Keep in mind that the next hour slot may be booked. If you need more time, check the schedule and you can add additional time to your booking. An automatic charge for another hour will be assessed if you are on site more than five minutes past the scheduled time. Use of the Clawfoot tub, filled with water or milk, requires a minimum two hour booking. You will need to let us know before you book your two hour “tub session” so we can turn on the water to the tub, it is not normally switched on. Some of our customers book the space for multiple hours and shoot multiple subjects while they have the studio reserved. This is an efficient way to use the space; choose a date, book a few hours and then market a shoot based on that date. It works great!

  • After you checkout there is an option to have your information kept in the form of a Studio8 account. You will see a box labeled “Register for an Account”. Please select this option. Doing this makes it easier for us to process any refunds or to add additional time or features to your session.

  • Your booked session is time limited by the hour. You will need to book enough time for setup and cleanup after your shoot. If the hour following your session is Not booked ( you can check this on the scheduling calendar ) you can add an additional hour to your original booking.

  • To Cancel or Reschedule your session please use the link at the bottom of the email conformation that you received when you booked your session. Doing this will keep our calendar properly updated and assure any refunds or additional charges are properly processed. Please don’t contact Studio 8 directly to cancel or reschedule. You can Cancel or Reschedule up to 48 hours before your scheduled session, using the cancel / reschedule link. Cancellations made less than 48 hours before the scheduled time will not result in a refund.

  • No. You may have multiple people come to be photographed during your session, and you may bring an assistant, or a stylist, but your session is for one content creator ( photographer or videographer ). The exception to this policy is for Workshops. Workshops are considered to be events, and must be scheduled and approved. We monitor the usage of the studio remotely, and violation of this policy will result in a cancellation of the booking without a refund.

It the studio is rented for a production that includes stills and video ( a common practice for commercial projects ) of the same subject matter, then the use by dual content creators is allowed.

  • We strive to provide what you need for your shoot, and we have chosen to provide continuous LED lights that will match the available daylight, (during daylight hours) so that you can easily mix the lights with the window light. Each light will already be on a rolling stand, with an attached sandbag for safety. Each light will also have an instruction card attached. The featured Lighting equipment includes four “round” softboxes, all mounted to 200-watt LED light heads. Additionally there are LED panel lights suitable as rim lights, hair lights or background Lights. All of the LED lights are adjustable from 0-100% brightness, and from 2700K to 5600K. These are great lights, and they are very simple to use. Even when the sun has set, these lights provide a light level suitable for still photography and video production. The studio overhead lights are High CRI daylight balanced, so they may be left on or tuned off.

If working with lighting equipment is a new experience, consider taking one of our workshops where we will show you how to get the most out to the Studio 8 lighting equipment.

  • The clawfoot tub is a new addition to the studio. Please read the detailed usage policies listed above in the Studio Policies section.
